Photos of a machine

See every photo taken of a machine in one gallery, add your own, and choose the photo that stands for the machine across Solmex.

Included in: Every planUpdated

The Photos card on a machine's Overview tab gathers every photograph of that machine in one place: the ones you upload directly, and the ones people attached while doing inspections, raising findings, working on work orders, recording the work done and reporting breakdowns. One of them is the machine's thumbnail, the picture shown beside it in lists.

Before you start

  • You need Equipment: View to see the gallery. Every photo of the machine is shown to you, whichever record it was filed on.
  • You need Equipment: Edit to add photos and to choose the thumbnail.
  • Photos can be JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC files. The largest size allowed is set by your administrator under Settings > Company Settings, in File Upload Limits.

See the photos

The Photos card on a machine's Overview tab, with the thumbnail marked by a yellow star
  1. In the sidebar, open Assets > Equipment and open the machine.
  2. On the Overview tab, scroll to Photos. The number beside the title is how many there are.
  3. When photos come from more than one place, buttons appear above them: All, Equipment, Inspections, Findings, Work orders, Work records and Breakdowns, each with its count. Press one to show only those photos.
  4. Click a photo to open it full size. Use the arrow keys or the arrows on screen to move between photos.

Under a full-size photo, Solmex shows where it came from (for example the work order or finding it was filed on), the file name, who uploaded it and when it was taken.

Add photos

  1. On the Photos card, click + Add Photos. On a machine with no photos yet, you can also click Upload the first photo.
  2. Choose one or more photos.
  3. Optionally type a Caption, such as "Front-left view". The same caption is applied to every photo you selected.
  4. Click Upload Photo (or Upload 3 Photos, and so on). Solmex shows its progress as each one finishes.

Large photos are reduced in size as they are uploaded, so they open quickly on a weak signal. Photos taken on an iPhone in HEIC format are saved as JPEG so every browser can show them.

Choose the thumbnail

The thumbnail is the photo shown beside the machine in lists, such as the Equipment Register and the breakdowns list. The current one has a filled yellow star in its corner.

  1. Hover over the photo you want (on a phone, tap it to open it full size).
  2. Press the star in its top-left corner, or Use as thumbnail under the full-size photo.

The star moves to the photo you chose. Any photo in the gallery can be the thumbnail, including one taken on an inspection or a work order.

Delete a photo

  1. Hover over the photo and press the red × in its top-right corner.
  2. Confirm Delete photo?

Who can delete depends on the record the photo was filed on, because the photo belongs to that record:

Photo filed onPermission needed to delete it
The machine itselfEquipment: Edit
An inspection or a findingInspections: Edit
A work orderWork Orders: Edit
A work record (the Work done section)Work Orders: Execute
A breakdownBreakdowns: Edit

If you do not hold the permission, the × is not shown. If you delete the thumbnail, the machine falls back to its earliest remaining photo.

Rules worth knowing

  • Photos stay with the record they were taken for. A photo attached to a work order still belongs to that work order. The gallery only shows it here as well, so you never need to upload the same picture twice.
  • Opening a photo does not open its record. You can see every photo of a machine with Equipment: View, but opening the work order or breakdown behind it still needs that module's own permission.
  • Animated GIFs are not accepted. Save the picture as a JPG or PNG first.
