Close, cancel or reopen work
Close a finished work order, cancel one that is not going ahead, and reopen a signed work record to correct it.
A work order ends in one of two ways. Closed means the work was done, signed off and accepted. Cancelled means it is not going ahead. Before it is closed, a finished work record can still be reopened to correct a mistake.
Before you start
| To | You need |
|---|---|
| Close a work order | Work Orders: Close |
| Cancel a work order | Work Orders: Close |
| Reopen a finished work record | Work Orders: Execute |
Close a work order
A work order can be closed once its work has been recorded and signed off, when its status is Finished, awaiting closure. See Sign off a work order.
- Open the work order.
- Check the Work done section: this is what you are accepting.
- Click Close work order.

The status becomes Closed and the Progress card shows who closed it and when.
If the job still has work permits that are pending, approved or active, Solmex shows Work Order Has Open Permits and lists them. Closing the work order does not close its permits: close them separately, as in Approve, sign and close a permit. Click Close Anyway to close the work order regardless, or Cancel to go and close the permits first.
Cancel a work order
Cancel a job that will not be done, for example a duplicate or a request that was withdrawn.
- Open the work order.
- Click More, then Cancel Work Order.
- Confirm Cancel this work order?.
The status becomes Cancelled. You can cancel a work order that is Not started or In progress, not one that is already finished.
Reopen a finished work record
When the work has been signed off but something on the record is wrong, such as a missing signature or the wrong parts, reopen the record before the work order is closed.
- Open the work order and scroll to the Work done section, which says Signed off and finished.
- Click Reopen.
- Say why it is being reopened, for example "missing signature", and confirm.
The record unlocks so it can be edited and signed again. The work order stays Finished, awaiting closure, and its button says Sign off the work until the record is finished again with Finish & sign off.
Rules worth knowing
- Closed and cancelled are final on the work order page. A closed or cancelled work order cannot be edited, given a blocker, or have its record reopened. If more work is needed, create a new work order.
- Photos and documents are locked once the work is finished.
